Episode 8 Mom guilt In this episode we talk about Mom Guilt. What is it, how does it affect us and what can we do about it? There are plenty of reasons mom guilt can arise in any stage of motherhood. You can feel guilty because; - you feel like you’re not spending enough time with your kids - you raised your voice to your kids - you feel like you don’t know what you’re doing - you didn’t breastfeed or didn’t breastfeed long enough - you just want to rest on that one day off instead of bringing them to a farm, playdate or ballet or soccer practise - you need to have another zoom call with a client The list can go on and on The consequences of feeling guilty can have a major impact on us personally and in our business. Because of mom guilt you can start to develop feelings of low self-esteem, doubt, unhappiness or shame. You might feel that you’re never good enough and all these negative feelings can seep through to how you treat your business. Because of mom guilt you can start being less visible on social media, you can stop booking appointments with potential clients because you think you’re already spending too much time “away” from your kids. So what can you do to release Mom Guilt? First of realise and recognise you have it and realise you’re not alone in it. Spend your time with them fully, no distraction, no phones, no social media You can find some extra time by talking or singing with them during the schoolrun, in the car etcetera. Reflect on why you raised your voice, what was the trigger, when you know this, you can do your best to avoid this next time STOP comparing yourself to other moms, we are all just trying to do our best. If you’re following a seemingly perfect mom on social media that triggers your mom guilt feelings, STOP following them or just mute them for a while. And remember, social media only shows the highlights of life. There is no training or how to be a good mother and side hustler we’re all different and our kids are all different so accept that. When you decide to release that mom guilt, you’ll start to see the positive side of motherhood and your side hustle. You’ll be more confident, and show up more unapologetically for your business. You’ll start to put yourself first instead of everyone else you’ll see other thriving mothers as an inspiration and not a threat.
