In this week’s episode, we look at conflicts that cannot seem to be solved.
Whether it is in life, career or business, conflicts are intractable when they become deeply rooted, long-lasting, and resistant to resolution. This typically happens when underlying issues involve identity, values, power, or historical grievances, and when trust has broken down. Such conflicts often persist despite negotiation or mediation because parties see the struggle as zero-sum or existential, making compromise seem impossible.
Together, we’ll unpack how to recognize what’s really going on beneath the surface, how to rebuild trust and reconciliation, and what to do when nothing seems to work.

Cocktail of the Week: The Bourbon Bushwick
Ingredients
-2 oz bourbon (in place of rye)
-¾ oz sweet (rosso) vermouth
-¼ oz maraschino liqueur
-¼ oz bitter orange-liqueur such as Amer Picon (or a substitute like Amaro Lucano)
Instructions
- Chill a coupe or Nick & Nora glass by placing it in the freezer or filling it with ice water for a minute.
- In a mixing glass filled with ice, pour the bourbon, sweet vermouth, maraschino liqueur, and bitter orange-liqueur.
- Stir gently for about 15-20 seconds until well chilled and diluted. (Use a bar-spoon, stirring smoothly.)
- Discard ice from the chilled serving glass, then strain the mixture into it.
- Serve without garnish (or optionally, a lemon twist or a maraschino cherry if you like a little extra accent).
- Sip and enjoy.
