Don C. Johnson founded Trace Investigations in Bloomington, Indiana in 1990, and over the past 30 years, the firm has become a leader in providing litigation support to trial attorneys around the state, specializing in personal injury and criminal defense cases. In addition, Trace Investigations is a regional pre-employment screening company, offering background investigations to large and small businesses. Although he has turned over the day-to-day investigative work to his staff, Don continues to serve as chairman of the Indiana Private Investigator and Security Guard Licensing Board. Prior to opening his own firm, Don worked for other investigative businesses in Tennessee and New York, gaining valuable experience in the private sector. He served as an intelligence analyst with the U.S. Air Force, including 22 months overseas with NATO forces during the Vietnam Era. Don grew up as a "farm kid" in southern Kentucky before entering the service. He and his wife Becky reside in a small town near Bloomington.

Our guest this week is Robert "Jerry" DeFatta. Jerry has over 20 years of experience in corporate security and investigations. He is a Certified Fraud Examiner and a Board Accredited Investigator with extensive training and experience in conducting internal theft and fraud investigations. Prior to leaving the casino industry, he worked for over 10 years as a Senior Security Investigator for one of the largest gaming companies in Louisiana. In 1997, Jerry became licensed as a private investigator and founded DeFatta & Associates, LLC. Since then, he has continued to conduct internal theft- and fraud-related investigations for a variety of corporate clients.Jerry is an active member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), ASIS International, the International Intelligence Network (INTELLENET), and several other professional organizations. He is also an experienced instructor who has conducted training in investigative techniques, fraud prevention, deception detection, and private investigations throughout the country. Jerry is approved by the Louisiana State Board of Private Investigator Examiners as a private investigator instructor, and his training courses have been approved as continuing education for private investigators and others. He has authored articles on the topic of employee theft, and his work has been published in Security Management Magazine and PI Magazine.

Our guest this week is Jan Barefoot. 30 years ago Jan, a Charlotte North Carolina native, combined the experience she had gained in the legal industry along with her King’s Business College degree to begin Charlotte’s premier private detective agency; Barefoot Professional Investigations. From their humble beginnings, Jan Barefoot and her team of licensed investigators have grown to one of the largest investigative firms in the Charlotte area, serving major law firms, corporations, and thousands of individuals. The secret to the success of Barefoot Professional Investigations has been recognized as one of the most ethical investigative firms in the Southeast. Their relentless attention to detail and their ability to tackle some of the toughest cases have earned them the respect and admiration of the top law firms and attorneys in the Southeast.

Today’s guest is Frank Scalise who writing under the pen name of Frank Zafiro. Frank served in the U.S. Army from 1986-91 in Military Intelligence as a Czechoslovak linguist. In 1993, he became a police officer in Spokane, Washington. During his career, he worked as a patrol officer, corporal, and detective before entered into leadership roles, becoming a sergeant in 2002. He was fortunate enough to command patrol officers, investigators, K-9 officers (and their dogs!), and the SWAT team. Frank retired from law enforcement in 2013 as a captain in order to write full time and to teach. From 2013-17, he taught law enforcement subject matter at the community college and university, and leadership as a national instructor for a prominent police institution. He also occasionally teaches a series of writing workshops. Frank earned a BA in History from Eastern Washington University in 1998, and an MS in Administration of Justice from the University of Louisville in 2012. Frank has held the #1 author spot for police procedurals on Amazon. Frank’s books are available in all formats — paperback, ebook, and audiobook. Frank began writing seriously at about thirteen. In 1995, he started a draft of Under A Raging Moon, which would become the first book in the River City series of crime fiction. Since then, Frank has completed multiple novels set in River City, a fictional version of Spokane, Washington.
