How To Start a Gratitude Practice

Listen Later

This week I'm sharing how to start a gratitude practice and let me start out by saying I am so happy and grateful you show up each week. Whether you listen in or read the blog/show notes, every one of you is helping me fulfill my purpose and passion which is to not let anyone stop you from getting out there and doing what YOU love, despite your age.

Last week I had the pleasure of interviewing international best-selling author, Jenny Berk. Jenny’s book The Body Image Blueprint is a journal of her journey of learning how to let go of the just “love your body” mentality and switching to learning to appreciate the miracle her body is and all it does. Be sure to check it out after this week’s show.

This week I’m sharing with you one of the rituals that helps keep me on the path of having a positive attitude…my daily gratitude practice. This little morning routine helps to ground me and start each day on a positive note so I can be a better person. What I focus on expands and even if the rest of my day turns to crap, the longer I keep up my practice, the shorter my time of staying in the crap is!

It's The Little Things

Many people don’t start a gratitude practice because they believe they don’t have much to be grateful for. I hear you, I see you..and how do I know? I used to be you. While my life isn’t perfect and full rainbows and sunshine every day, appreciating what I have now AND appreciating what I would like to have come helps me keep my mind on the times when it is so when I am knee deep in crap, I know there is light at the end of the tunnel!

Another reason most people don’t get started is they think they have to write down long, prophetic things they are grateful for: yes, I am grateful for those big things, my daily practice is usually writing down things that might seem childish. On any given morning I might write I’m grateful for a good night’s sleep, the sunshine, my boys (Takum, Buster and of course, Mark!), a warm blanket, a good cup of coffee, etc.

One Minute Is All That's Needed

Also, many of us think we have to spend a half-hour or more in deep thought…not at all! Writing down just one thing you are grateful every day can have life-changing effects! If we have more time, great! If not, spending as little as a minute a day writing down one thing can have a huge impact over time. If you’d like to get started on a gratitude practice, I’m going to share __________________ simple steps to get started.Click here for the show blog with all the details!
