Do you feel practicing self-care is overwhelming? Girl, you are not alone. More than likely you think you have to spend money (and who isn’t feeling a pinch right now) on massages, mani/pedis. Not only does this cost dollars, but it also costs your precious TIME.
Thankfully self-care can be done in just a few minutes so you don’t feel overwhelmed AND it my four tips to practice self-care won’t cost you anything!!!
Here we go…Here are my top four tips to practice self-care without being overwhelmed:
1. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬. Did you know most people are oxygen-deficient due to shallow breathing? Let’s do this first one together. Take four count deep breath in and exhale with a four count. One more: take a deep breath in…..and out. Feel free to pause the podcast and finish your five minutes. Don’t have five minutes? Do it for 1-2. Any time you spend centering yourself will be beneficial.
2. 𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐨 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐡 𝐚𝐢𝐫. Piggyback this tip with a walk and you will feel amazing! Unless you dedicate time outside each day, more than likely you are also nature deprived. If you are able, take five minutes of your lunch break and head outside. Even a easy stroll around the block will make you feel more energized!
3. 𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐤 𝐚𝐭 𝐚 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞. Is your to-do list a mile long and feels overwhelming? Focus on knocking off the most important thing, then another and another and before you know it, your list will be complete! Some experts will tell you that you have to do the longest one first, the most important one first. I say whatever gets you to check things off your list to make you feel less overwhelmed…go for it!
4. 𝐃𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚 𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲. This can be your family, a favorite hobby, exercise or ??? As long as it’s something that brings YOU joy, 𝘪𝘵’𝘴 𝘢 𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧-𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘯! If you feel you don’t have that much time to spare, it’s OK. Start by dedicating 5 or 10 minutes a day for a week. The next week add on another five minutes, and keep progressing until you have worked your way up to an hour….OR MORE!!!
So there you have it, four simple tips to practice self-care.
