How To Make Peace With Our Body: An Interview With Best Selling Author Jenny Berk.
In this week's Aging Youthful Blog-Cast (a cross between a blog post and podcast) where I had the pleasure of interviewing and learning from The Body Image Blueprint author, Jenny Berk. I would like to mention quickly, last week I shared what I believe us Aging Youthful Gen X’ers can learn from millennials. Before "X" off website, hear me out. While millennial generation IS the “everyone gets a trophy” generation, they are also a socially conscious generation changing how things are being done. It’s a short and sweet episode, so if you have an extra 15 minutes, check it out after this week’s show.
How I Met A Body Positivity Best-Selling Author
Back to this week. I met Jenny in a Facebook group when I put up a post looking for people to interview for the podcast. Jenny sent me a message after checking out this site and felt she might have some value to share with the readers and listeners. Not only is she is the best-selling author of The Body Image Blueprint (find it on Amazon here) she is a certified Eating Psychology Coach, mindful eating instructor, body image mentor, speaker and health and wellness blogger. Jenny earned her certificate from the Institute for the Psychology of Eating in 2015 and her MB-Eat certificate in 2016. She is a regular contributor for The Huffington Post and Boston Mom’s Blog.
I checked out her website and when I saw what her book was about, I ordered it right away. The Body Image Blueprint, a book I read cover to cover in a weekend, tells Jenny’s life-long journey of struggling with body image and gives us permission to release the idea of having to love our bodies to learning to appreciate what our body does and allows us to do. An area I’m having to give myself some grace as I navigate the inevitable “change of life” and the hormone and weight changes that come along with it.
Releasing The "Love Your Body" Idea
I LOVE what Jenny shared that in this day when women are struggling with the statement of "just love yourself and your body" we can let go of that and switch to just appreciating what our bodies do and allow us to do instead. Don't like your legs? Learn to appreciate that they move you from point A to B. Wish you had plumper lips? Be grateful they can give kisses. Not a fan of the "batwings" on your arms? Be grateful they can give hugs to those you love. ! nugget right here can change lives!
