What Gen X Can Learn From Millenials

Listen Later

Hey there aging youthful Gen X community! Before I dive into what I am chatting about this week on the blog-cast -a new term I coined since the Aging Youthful Blog and Aging Youthful Podcast are kinda one in the same. But I digress...

So lets' get to this week's subject, what us Gen X and Baby Boomers can learn from the Millenials. Yes folks, we can learn a lot from the "everyone gets a trophy" generation. Before we dis them too bad, WE are the folks who raised them. While the helicopter parenting doesn't make for independent adults, we also raised them to believe they could be, do and have anything they wanted and who are we to now tell them they can't be, do or have?

Listed below are five things I believe we can learn from these "kids" who love autonomy, 80's and 90's music and their smartphones. Taking their cue, we can use these things to help us age more youthfully every day. For my full thoughts be sure to listen to the show. Here we go, Five Things Gen X Can Learn From Millenials

Millennials Are Motivated by Meaning

Having a job making them feel like they are making a difference is more important to them than a job title.

Millennials Are Open to Change

One of the most dangerous sentences in business is "because this is the way we've always done it". If we aren't open to change, we may get passed up by one of these 'kids".

Millennials Have a Hunger for Learning

We shouldn't quit learning just because we are "getting older". This reason is the all the MORE reason we should keep our brain active by always learning. Why is this important? It can ward off diseases of the brain such as Alzheimers.

Millenials Are "Famously Frank"

One of the side effects of us Gen X ers teaching Millenials they can be, do and have anything...they aren't afraid to voice what they want nor are they afraid to go after it. If us Gen Xers aren't as ballsy, we're going to get passed up by them!

Millenials Are Socially Conscious

Millenials aren't fooled by advertising. They have grown up with the internet and smart phones in their hands and with the swipe of a screen, can check to see if a brand wanting their business is being kind to their workers, the environment or any cause near and dear to their heart. They won't patronize businesses that aren't even if they have a less expensive alternative.
