How to stop relying on the scale for validation

In this episode of Beyond Dieting, we talk about how the bathroom scale and our weight measurement should not be our only measurement of success with our bodies. What success means to you with respect to your Body Image and Self Image should be unique to you and encompass more than a number on a scale. 

When you haven’t defined what body image success is for yourself - beyond a number on a scale - you can’t see all the other victories that may be taking place in your life.   When you decide for yourself what success looks like, then you will 

(a) feel good and celebrate your wins when they happen, and 

(b) you won’t be so hyper focused on the numbers on a scale - which can be fickle friends. 

The scale and your dress size are not the only way to measure success. Our weight and dress size are often what we think society’s idea of success is.  We’ve allowed everyone else’s vision of ‘ideal’ or ‘right’ to become our own standard.  This is when the committee in our own head can stay stuck in comparison and feeling ‘not good enough’.  Because the ideal that the diet industry has imposed on us is truthfully not attainable for most women.

This idea of ‘not good enough’ gets internalized and spreads to so many other areas of our lives.
