The word “no” is two simple letters, but it’s one of the hardest things to say, especially for women. We’re taught to always be agreeable, accommodating and automatically say yes to anything we’re asked to do.
That’s why people can go their whole lives without actually knowing how to say ‘no’. So our default answer is “oh sure” or “yes, of course” even if it’s to our own detriment.
Our place of ‘no’ is already inside us, we just have to find it and vocalize it in order to release our genuine power. It might feel unfamiliar, and we may have to practice at first, but honoring our ‘no’ is the only way to truly own our space and stand in our power.
Why is it so hard to say no? How do we build our no muscles? In this episode, we talk about why we don’t know how to say no, and how to make a place for it in our vocabulary.
Things You’ll Learn In This Episode
-Say no with no ifs, buts or maybes
One of the ways we try to compromise with our no is by saying things like “maybe” or “I’ll try.” What happens when we say yes to things we don’t really want?
-Practice saying no
No can be a lot to say out loud if we’re not used to it. How do we get comfortable with it?
-No before yes
A full body yes is an important thing we need to honor, but how can we genuinely say yes if we don’t know how to say no first?
