Ever wondered what it takes to successfully run a franchise? How about two or three? Well Dave Duffy will certainly help answer some of your questions on this episode.
Dave Duffy and his wife are the owners of three Tropical Smoothie locations based in Columbia South Carolina. In this week's episode, we talk about his journey as he shares some sound advice about navigating business ownership.
More about Dave and his story:
I retired out of US Army Special Forces after 21 years with extensive experience in Africa and southwest Asia with combat experience in Afghanistan. Additional deployments include Operation Support Hope in Rwanda/Zaire, Operation Uphold Democracy in Haiti, and Operation Focus Relief in Nigeria. Commanded the first 3rd SFG(A) Company in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan to see combat in '02 where I was the Unconventional Warfare Area of Operations commander, overseeing 500 indigenous irregulars in use against remnants of the Taliban and AQ. Received Bronze Star with "V" device for gallantry during combat actions in Khowst.
Now I am a part-time Business Development Consultant for Xator Corporation. I am augmenting current capabilities there to generate leads and expand the business, in particular for their business unit that includes The Leadership Foundry. Here, Xator provides top-notch leader training to both government and private industry clients. As directed, I work capture management and technical writing support on proposals, generate new leads, and develop information needed to enhance company PWIN.
Additionally, my wife and I have become serial entrepreneurs as we own three Tropical Smoothie Cafes in the Columbia SC area (S05/SC07/SC09). She is the CEO, I do the maintenance, deliveries, and sales. We bust our humps but are seeing the reward. This is hard work that is worth it.
