How to Work on Your Emotional Healing - Things That Help Outside of Therapy

Listen Later

The purpose of emotional healing is to learn how to cope, respond & honor our emotions & express ourselves better. This will lead to more content moments in life & less stress.  Here are 7 tips on how to go about emotional healing.

Show Notes:
I’m pretty sure I mention how amazing going to therapy is in every single episode. But we can’t ALWAYS be in therapy. Even if you go often, like I do, there are still times that you will be out here in the world, on your own, needing to take your own actions to work on your emotional health & healing.

But maybe you don’t know how to do that. Which I totally get because it can be confusing & overwhelming to figure out what will actually contribute to your healing & what will just make you more stressed because it’s too much. Creating more pain is not the goal here. The purpose of emotional healing is to learn how to cope, respond & honor our emotions & express ourselves better.

If you’re not sure whether or not you’re struggling emotionally, here are some examples:

  • Mood Swings Often
  • Holding Onto Grudges
  • Lack of Social Communication
  • Overwhelming Feelings of Shame & Guilt
  • Overreacting & Allowing Emotional Triggers to Control You

Unfortunately, practicing any tips for healing may not bring you back to where you were without pain & struggle. You can get pretty close, but each person’s journey will be different with different outcomes & difficulties. But know that it’s not all for nothing. These things we have gone through make us stronger, smarter, more capable & more stable, despite what may be happening to us or around us. And by working on becoming more whole & healing emotionally, your strength, smarts, capabilities & stability just increase.

Today I want to share with you 7 ways you can work on your emotional healing outside of therapy:

  1. Be Yourself More. (ask for what you want, set personal boundaries, stand up for your own values, beliefs & opinions)
  2. Take More Rest.
  3. Be Honest About How You’re Feeling. (honor your feelings, don’t hide your feelings, don’t decide to feel another way because someone won’t accept your true feelings)
  4. Move On From Past Events/Experiences.
  5. Focus On Developing Positive Habits.
  6. Discover Better Coping Mechanisms. (ask for help, take breaks from stressful situations, connect with a positive community, practice mindful resets, become distracted)
  7. Allow Yourself to Change. (don’t lock yourself in a box, stay fluid, be flexible)
