Today on Louisiana Considered, we hear from two former weightlifters on how the sport opened up new opportunities for them and introduced them to cross-cultural friendships. 

Walter Imahara tells us about growing up in a Japanese internment camp before becoming a national weightlifting champion. Then, we hear from his friend and former weightlifter Warren Perrin, who discusses his book about David Berger, the Jewish athlete murdered at the 1972 Munich Olympics. We hear how the sport of weightlifting opened doors to these three athletes with family histories of persecution, and learn how Imahara and Perrin are dedicated to preserving Berger’s legacy today.
