Listen Later

Why did China send the spy balloon?
The balloon flights, some officials believe, are part of an effort by China to hone its ability to gather data about American military bases .
The high-altitude Chinese balloon that crossed over the US last week is just part of a years-long surveillance program with Beijing deploying such craft around the globe, the US said, as officials sought to draw new attention to what they say is an increasingly aggressive Chinese spying campaign.
🇺🇸 🛩 🚁 ⚔️ USA is a superpower
The United States has one of the most advanced and powerful air defense and air power systems in the world. The US military operates a wide range of modern aircraft, including fighters, bombers, transport planes, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), as well as a comprehensive air defense system that includes radar, anti-aircraft weapons, and interceptor aircraft.
The US Air Force, in particular, has a long history of technological innovation and military dominance, and it is widely considered to be one of the most powerful air forces in the world. The US Air Force operates a diverse fleet of aircraft, including the F-35 Lightning II and the F-22 Raptor, which are among the most advanced fighters in the world.
In addition to its own air power, the US also has access to a comprehensive network of allies and partners, including NATO and other countries in the Pacific region, which can provide additional air defense and air power capabilities in times of need.
It's worth noting that air power is just one aspect of military strength, and a country's overall military power is determined by many factors, including its size, economy, technological capabilities, and military strategy. However, the US air defense and air power system is widely regarded as one of the most advanced and powerful in the world.
🇯🇵 🎈 JAPAN and WWII - Balloons as tool of War
During the Second World War, the Japanese army launched thousands of balloons known as "Fugo" or "Fire Balloons" towards the western coast of the United States. These balloons were part of a secret military operation aimed at starting forest fires and causing panic in the American population.
The balloons were made of paper and carried incendiary bombs and anti-personnel fragmentation bombs. They were released into the jet stream and carried across the Pacific Ocean by the prevailing winds.
Some of the balloons reached North America, and some caused small fires in remote areas. Although the campaign was not particularly effective in terms of military results, it did demonstrate the potential for long-range aerial attack, and it also created a sense of fear and uncertainty in the American public.
The Japanese balloon campaign was one of the first examples of transoceanic aerial warfare and it helped to spur the development of new technologies for detecting and intercepting airborne threats. Today, the Japanese balloon campaign is remembered as a unique and little-known aspect of the Second World War.
