Training 4 Influence

How Values-led Training Can Change Lives w/ Warren Larkin

Listen Later

In this episode, Tammy speaks to Clinical Psychologist Warren Larkin. Both Tammy and Warren are vocal proponents of using a trauma-informed approach when delivering services. So, when it came to releasing the Training 4 Influence book Transform Your Training, Tammy sent the chapter on values-led training over to Warren. In this episode Warren explains why he wishes the Training 4Influence methodology had existed when he first started delivering training, the importance of values-led training and their shared belief that everyone working within this sector must receive training that builds up their emotional resilience.

Warren Larkin is Founder and Managing Director of Warren Larkin Associates. With a background as a Clinical Psychologist, Warren has first-hand experience of working with vulnerable people - he has done most of his clinical work in specialist early intervention services with service users who are experiencing psychosis. In this position, Warren noticed early-on the relationship between childhood adversity and outcomes later in life. He has since undertaken numerous strategic roles, where he has extensive experience of leading transformational change and turnaround as well as developing leadership capacity and capability in complex organisational contexts.

More recently, Warren developed the Routine Enquiry about Adversity in Childhood (REACh) approach as a way of assisting organisations to become more trauma-informed and to train professionals to ask routinely about adversity in their everyday practice. He is now leading the Resilience Task Force, a campaign which is calling on the government to take seriously the mental health implications of the COVID19 pandemic and the subsequent long term effects of those who have experienced trauma during this period.

We hope you enjoy this discussion about why, after decades of experience within this sector, both Tammy and Warren believe values-led training can change lives.

About the methodology

The Training 4 Influence methodology was developed in response to growing pressure within the criminal justice, social care and charity sectors. With people being asked to deliver more for less and services stretched to breaking point, the most vulnerable people in society often don’t receive the support they need and those working in the sector feel overwhelmed and, at times, powerless to deliver what they know is needed.

The methodology is a creative solution that can transform any training session to improve organisational outcomes without costing the delegate or commissioner any more time or money than they are spending now. The method ensures training is delivered in a way that inspires, is relevant, enables learning and meets objectives. This ensures that frontline workers are skilled, knowledgeable and qualified and that they leave sessions enthusing about how their activities in their day job are going to be improved as a result of the training.
