 A committed activist for over twenty years, Nora has worked on several causes including racism and gender equality, climate change, poverty, animal rights, gun violence and more. In her twenties Nora realized no effective training existed to help young people who wanted to make change. Believing “if someone is old to enough to realize there's a problem, they are also wise enough to be part of the solution,” she also knew it can be difficult to know where to begin or how to deal with the many questions and challenges that come up along the way.  Nora devoted the following eight years to gaining the education and experience, then launched YEA summer camp for youth ages 12-17 in 2009. YEA camp has also taught aspiring adult activists and provides on-line training sessions. YEA has now trained close to 2000 individuals how to effectively create powerful change in the world.

In this episode of "How We Change the World", Palestinian leader Zoughbi Zoughbi talks about his decades of work teaching conflict transformation to other Palestinians and practicing what he terms “un-armed resistance” against the Israeli occupation. Zoughbi is the founder the of Wi’am: The Palestinian Conflict Transformation Center, located in the city of Bethlehem, Palestine.

In this conversation, Zoughbi speaks to the difficulty of living under occupation his entire life, and the hardship it creates for his community and his own family. He addresses the impact such a violent and restricted life has on the hearts and minds of Palestinians in the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem. Under these circumstances, he explains, “PTSD does not exist, because there is no post-trauma, only on-going trauma.” His center works to solve internal conflict in the Palestinian community, with a special emphasis on youth and empowering women and ending domestic violence. They also engage in international diplomacy, working to end conflict not only between Israelis and Palestinians, but in areas of conflict around the world.

“We are not only looking for Palestine to be free of the occupation, we want to work for justice everywhere. As Martin Luther King said, ‘Any injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.’"

With a master’s degree in Conflict Resolution from Notre Dame University, and thirty years leading Wi’am, Zoughbi was recently elected President of the highly regarded international  IFOR: International Fellowship of Reconciliation, representing forty countries and every continent.

Sarah Davison-Tracy is an author, an activist, a philanthropist, and a passionate leader who gathers like-minded individuals and groups around the world to work together to support human rights causes.

In her groundbreaking book, “No Longer Untouchable: A Story of Human Trafficking, Heroism, and Hope,”  Sarah shares the stories of four young Nepali women who were kidnapped and held in a brothel in India where they were forced to become sex workers. Miraculously they were all rescued, and asked Sarah to share their story with the world. Sarah's work is included in a documentary about the young women's journey to wholeness and their work to help others suffering the same fate due to be released this year. DocLand Documentary. When Curt Bowen moved to Guatemala from his native Idaho after graduating college, he planned to stay a month to build a house for a family in need. Thirteen years later he is still working hard in Guatemala and has no plans to leave. In some ways, he’s just hitting his stride.

Curt Bowen is the founder of Semilla Nueva, or New Seed, located in the Central American country of Guatemala. Their mission is straight forward: to reduce poverty by reducing the malnutrition that impacts half the country’s children. Malnutrition is not only the leading cause of childhood death, but it also stunts growth and brain development, which in turn keeps the entire country stuck in poverty. Malnutrition is the main reason Guatemala is the fourth poorest country in the world.

The past thirteen years have presented one challenge after another for Curt, which only served to strengthen his resolve. In that time his organization has grown to thirty employees, and he’s nurtured and grown valuable local and global partnerships.

Through rigorous monitoring and evaluation, it’s become clear their work with corn farmers has resulted in greater prosperity for farmers, better nutrition for the population, and solid hope for ongoing improvement in Guatemalan’s overall quality of life and hope for a better future.

People love their pets. Whether it’s a dog, cat, rabbit, hamster, bird, rat, or any other domesticated companion, our pets become beloved members of our family. Steadfast companions. Protectors. Entertainers. A glance through Instagram or TikTok provides ample evidence of our collective love for our animal friends.

There is another side to this happy picture, though. Sometimes life becomes tragic for domesticated animals. Whether it’s a situation of animal hoarding, puppy mills, dogfighting, natural disasters, cruelty, or basic neglect, the number of companion animals living in deplorable and deadly situations is staggering. Too many communities have few or no resources to help. Suffering can continue for generations.

Enter Animal Rescue Corps, an army of angels who arrive in massive numbers: veterinarians, handler, scribes, photographers, and other helpers who quite literally save the day for these suffering animals. This team of volunteers, sometimes numbering in the hundreds, document conditions, retrieve every single animal, clean them and treat them medically,, rehabilitate them, and find them loving  homes. They are unsung heroes.

Through humor, storytelling, and thoughtful reflection, Tim and Michael take listeners through the entire process of rescuing animals, starting with the phone call they receive from law enforcement regarding an appalling animal welfare situation, all the way through appearing in court to present the evidence they meticulously collect
