How Your Surival Responses are Connected to Your Attachment

Listen Later

Episode 12: In this episode, I explore the fascinating connection between your attachment patterns and your nervous system responses. I'll be discussing how your early experiences shape your relationship patterns – but importantly, these patterns aren't fixed. They're adaptations that helped you survive and connect in your early environments.

When you understand how our survival responses work – fight, flight, freeze, or fawn – you can better grasp why you react the way you do in relationships. For instance, those of us with anxious attachment tendencies might be exquisitely attuned to relationship dynamics, while those with avoidant patterns might instinctively create distance during stress. These aren't character flaws – they're intelligent adaptations your nervous system created to keep you safe.

I share how secure attachment allows for a natural flow of emotions and connection, while other patterns might emerge as protective mechanisms. The beauty is that when you understand these patterns, you can begin to work with them consciously.
