  • 024: If You're Human, You're Selling with Howie Kra

If you've ever gone on a job interview, or asked someone out on a date or tried to get funding for an important project, you're selling. No matter what you do, where you go, or who you engage with, you're always selling something. Whether it's a product, a service, an idea, a point of view, or even yourself, human beings are always selling.

In today's episode, I talk about how the (new) ABCs of Selling have replaced the old days of unsavory tactics to close a sale or hounding people to buy. And why I believe "always be caring" is an important mantra to have for personal and professional success.

  • 017: How To Handle Change in a Changing World with Kinsey Grant

Kinsey Grant anchored her first morning news show in the 5th grade decked out in her favorite pajamas. From that point on, the Florida native was hooked. Today, more than a decade later, the business journalist and self-proclaimed news junkie delivers the day's most relevant and interesting business happenings as editor of the Morning Brew, an online newsletter with more than 1.5 million subscribers, and host of the Brew's Business Casual podcast.

The daughter of former Florida state senator and U.S. congressman, James W. Grant, Kinsey grew up in a family where current events were regularly discussed at the dinner table and politics was a hot topic. Yet, despite her early exposure to and interest in the news, plenty of naysayers questioned Kinsey's choice saying it was "a terrible idea."

"I had more than one teacher tell me, 'You're never going to make any money,'" she said. "Why work in media?"

In today's episode, Kinsey shares her journey from a small community in Florida to the fast-paced business and finance mecca of New York City — and why staying true to your passions (and nimble in your pursuits) can yield the biggest returns.

  • 016: Why It Pays To Do Good with Seth Goldman

For Seth Goldman, co-founder and former CEO of the global beverage company Honest Tea, and executive chairman of Beyond Meat, the road to success was never a straight shot. It was a long, circuitous path that began with a simple mission to do good.

In 1998, Seth, a graduate of Harvard University and the Yale School of Management, teamed up with his former Yale professor, Barry Nalebuff, to create a low-calorie, flavorful drink that bridged the divide between sugary soft drinks and tasteless water options. The result was Honest Tea, a fair-trade, low-calorie organic drink that's not only good, it's good for you.

"You gotta have something bigger to believe in," Seth says. "If the only thing that drives you is making money, there are easier ways to make money."

In today's episode, Seth shares where his passion for socially-conscious causes, environmental sustainability and giving back came from; and why he's now on a mission to tackle the world's climate crisis, disrupt the meat industry and create a new company that will "help people connect the dots between their own personal actions and the impact those decisions have on the planet."

  • 015: The Secret Habits of World Class Champions with Alan Stein Jr.

Before launching a successful international speaking career, veteran basketball performance coach Alan Stein Jr. worked with the world's leading coaches and athletes — legends like Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and LeBron James. Alan saw firsthand how elite athletes trained on the court and, more importantly, what they do when no one is watching.

"The guys that want the ball at the end of the game are the ones who have earned the confidence during the unseen hours," Alan says. "They've made enough shots in empty gyms to know that they deserve an opportunity to win the game when it's crunch time."

In today's episode, Alan shares what he's learned from his time spent with world class athletes and how the principles used on the court can be applied to both life and business.
