Patrick McFarlane, my colleague and social worker, nurse practitioner  (psychiatric and family), and graduate student at Memorial University in  St. Johns, Newfoundland, talks about his own process of decolonization  and the need to decolonize health care in general.

As an immigrant to Australia, Francesca noted that its aboriginal cultural healers were largely invisible to most Australians and to the world.  She set out to make their presence more obvious and in the process has created an organization to support traditional cultural healers to practice their craft in Australia.  Lewis interviews her to learn more about how this happened and what the organization is currently doing.  We finish with some more philosophical discussions about healing.

We finish the discussion we started last week.  Still, this is more personal than I usually venture.  Allister assures me again that our critical colleagues will not listen and there is much to gain from telling my experiences in case they could benefit others. I hope so.

Allister Bush, a psychiatrist who works with Maori Mental Health Services in New Zealand and Lewis Mehl-Madrona, a psychiatrist who has worked extensively with North American indigenous people discuss their understanding of visions, spirit visitations, and voices.  Allister is interviewing Lewis mostly and it's a deeply personal interview for Lewis, but Allister reassured him that no conventional psychiatrist would ever listen to his podcast and he might as well speak his truth, so here it is....

Margie speaks about her dissertation research at the University of Alaska -- Fairbanks on Cultural Revitalization among the Aleutiq people of Kodiak, Alaska, where she teaches nursing at the University of Alaska -- Anchorage, Kodiak branch. It's a cool study that we think everyone will enjoy.
