BIO: Okoyomoh Egbekhuwa, or simply Huwa is a performance poet and podcaster from Nigeria, West Africa.
She started poetry in 2015 and podcasting in 2018. She's currently in her finals at The University of Benin as a student of Chemical Engineering. She found her creative side, more precisely in the literary arts sitting in her school's auditorium and listening for the first time to a spoken word poet deliver a Gospel poem called Abike. Things weren't the same after that. She has performed on stages in Benin and Lagos but decided to expand her reach by creating an online podcast where she shares her poems and inspiration behind them.
Soon after she got a request from a spoken word poet in Ireland asking to be a guest on the show. That sparked the idea to invite artists from not just Nigeria but anywhere the internet could reach. The podcast has been quite surprising, with new stories from different parts of the world, they get to break down stereotypes that has been built by the media and lack thereof.
Doing all this while struggling to get that bachelor's degree in Engineering, with very limited resources (power, exposure and internet), Huwa wonders sometimes if she's crazy.
But everyday, she keeps finding reasons to keep going and some day people would realize that were not as different and they like to think they are.
