  • Climate Groups Urge Governor to Deny Expansion of Iroquois Pipeline
    Climate activists rallied at the Capitol on Tuesday to call on Governor Hochul to deny a request for a State Air Facility Permit for the Iroquois Pipeline Company’s expansion by compression proposal. The expansion would require doubling the size of polluting fracked gas compressor stations in nearby Athens and Dover as well as two more in Connecticut. We hear from Kim Fraczek of SANE Energy Project; Mary Finneran of Greene County, Charlie Quimby of Concerned Citizens of Dover, Cari Gardner, who lives near the Athens Compressor Station and member of New York Progressive Action Network, and Emily Skyel of Food and Water Watch.   • Climate Protests Force Governor to Retreat on Methane Rules
    Last Friday, Governor Hochul set off a political firestorm when she suddenly announced that she wanted to rollback the emission reduction goals in the new climate law. After a firestorm of protest from climate advocates, scientists, and lawmakers, she said on Wednesday that she won’t push for the changes in the upcoming state budget since she wants to focus on passing her cap-and-trade carbon pricing proposal. However, she indicated that she may revisit her efforts to gut the law post-budget. On Tuesday, climate activists blockaded her office at the State Capitol to protest her proposals.     The United Kingdom recently announced that it was sending armor-piercing rounds with depleted uranium to Ukraine. The US developed this weapon during the Cold War to use against Russian tanks.     Dan Egan, the Board chair of the Capital Region Chapter of American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), spoke with Hudson Mohawk Magazine's Aileen Javier. The AFSP mission is to save lives and bring hope for those affected by suicide providing prevention programs, educating the public about risk factors and warning signs, raising funds for suicide research and programs, and reaching out to those individuals who have lost someone to suicide.
