  • Stone Soup at The Young Peacemakers Camp
    The Young Peacemakers camp was held at the Albany Quaker Meeting house this year from August 22-26. On Wednesday, the theme was Peace in the Community and the campers made a big batch of soup to donate to Food Not Bombs in Albany. The counselors used the story Stone Soup as an example. Moses Nagel was there to observe.

  • The Success of the Excluded Workers Fund
    The Excluded Workers Fund established emergency unemployment compensation funds for workers, including undocumented immigrants, who are excluded from unemployment insurance. It was a success for those who received the funds. However many people were unable to access these relief funds, and there is now a new bill proposed to extend funds to those who are excluded from unemployment called Excluded No More.

    The year 2022 has seen so many victories for union organizing that at this year's Labor Day Picnic the Solidarity Committee of the Capital District will be giving more awards than usual to employees who stepped into leadership roles organizing their workplace. In this week's MLK Labor and Community Network check-in, Doug Bullock previews this year's picnic with co-hosts Cathy Silber and H. Bosh, Jr. This year's picnic is September 5 in Cook Park in Colonie, noon-4 pm.
