    On May 3, 2022, a rally was quickly organized outside Albany's capitol in response to the leaked draft document showing the Supreme Court's intention to overturn Roe v. Wade.   • An Autistic Teenager was Tackled in Target by Police and People Protest
    An autistic teenager was tackled in Target by a Saratoga County sheriff’s deputy and his sister was detained and the community is outraged. At a protest outside of the Clifton Park Target, people gathered to voice their disgust with what happened to these children in the store and make demands moving forward. Hudson Mohawk Magazine producer Elizabeth Press was at the protest and filed this piece. It starts off with Miki Foster from the Black Liberation Coalition.

  • Environmental Advocates Discuss NYS DOH Standards for PFAS
    Prior to the meeting of the NYS Drinking Water Quality Council, advocates urged the NYS Department of Health (DOH) to lower proposed drinking water levels for 23 PFAS chemicals, so that whenever these PFASs are detected in drinking water, the public receives a letter in the mail about it. Rob Hayes of Environmental Advocates discusses water quality issues with Mark Dunlea of Hudson Mohawk Magazine.

  • Art & March to Raise Awareness Around Missing and Murdered Indigenous People
    On Friday May 6th, a Missing and Murdered Indigenous People’s Awareness March will take place in Hudson, NY. In preparation for this march, Forge Project partnered with artists Demian DinéYazhi' (Diné) of R.I.S.E. and Korina Emmerich (Puyallup) to host a drop-in protest poster- and banner-making workshop at Art Omi. Sina Basila Hickey spoke with the artists to get more information.
    These groups and the larger community will be gathering at the Henry Hudson Riverfront Park around 5:30 PM and lead Indigenous activists and allies starting at 6 PM in a march along Warren Street, which will end with remarks at City Hall around 7 PM (about 1 mile).
    This event takes place on Friday May 6th. May 5th is the National Day of Awareness around #MMIP

  • Residents Demand that "Norlite Has Got To Go"
    Lights Out Norlite held a rally at NY Governors Mansion bringing Governor Hochul's attention to the hazardous waste and toxic dust that the Norlite Aggregate in Cohoes has burned for years. Hudson Mohawk Magazine's Andrea Cunliffe reported on-site, recording the passion from the public that included demands for the closure of this incinerator that spreads cancer-causing dust and toxic emissions and sending a clear message that Norlite has 'Got To Go'.

    Outta The Muck, a film by Ira McKinley & Bhawin Suchak, is coming to the Sanctuary on May 7th. The co-directors will lead at workshop at 5pm with a film screening at 7pm.
    Dulcinia Diggs interviewed Bhawin Suchak about the experience of creating this film and what advice he has for up and coming filmmakers.
