In these four sermons, Rev Eve takes some of her MA Dissertation work on the relationship between faith and culture and sets out to paint a vibrant picture of life in God’s Kingdom, with Jesus as King.
In week one, we think about how followers of Jesus are described as ‘citizens of heaven’ here on earth, called to be ‘Ambassadors’ or representatives of Jesus in our families, our friendship groups, our work and our culture. In week two we begin to ‘learn the lingo’ of the Kingdom, particularly the language of welcome in the kingdom, in the form of Baptism and Holy Communion. In week three we look ‘learn the lingo’ of our surrounding culture, not to be assimilated into it, but to celebrate the culture of Kingdom wherever we find ourselves, learning from St. Paul’s experience in Athens. Finally we ‘think about ‘counting the cost’ of living for Jesus today, when our culture may not always support or celebrate us living out our faith.
