The Bible provides multiple examples of Jesus and the apostles treating sin in a manner that many in today’s Christian circles would consider too severe. Yet, if God views covenant-breaking sin as an existential threat to our relationship with Him—which John says constitutes eternal life—then He is going to be very direct with us, so that we may overcome.
