This week I invite a guest on to discuss the importance of using empathy when helping our kids navigate a chaotic and frightful world. The approach we take and communicate to our kids can have lasting effects. Helping your child can start by simple communication means that are possible to implement today.

What are the characteristics that make up your self identity? Do you wish they were different characteristics? In this episode I discuss how sources around us can have an affect on our sense of identity and how there is hope in uncovering a more healthy identity for yourself. We can focus on what is most important to us and redefine what our needs are. 

At times we can find ourselves stuck in behaviors or actions that we are not proud of and don't have the confidence or conviction of changing them. These actions make us feel small or isolated from others and that we seem powerless to change them. The hope of getting out of our self bondage behaviors is discussed in my new episode. Many times we have unexpected things and events that happen in our lives that leaves us frozen on how to react or what to do. When we look back on memories of these experiences, we feel regretful and guilty. There are biases in each of us that go unnoticed. This biases can shut us off to seeing the good and positive in others and inhibit us in gaining a better sense of what it means to be human. Blindspots are not only for checking while driving. Sometimes our blindspots are within our mental and judgement capacities warping our view of others and different perspectives. In trouble times we have to wonder how are we going to emotionally and mentally hold up. Many times we might feel stacked up against forces that seem overwhelming and impossible to overcome. This is a special time of year when we would like to change something about ourselves, our personality, our bodies, or about our situation. But changing isn't easy. At times we are left struggling to find hope that the effort we put in is worth it or find the motivation to continue. Sometimes stories can teach us lessons about ourselves. Sometimes these lessons can share insight into how we can approach memories of the past, the details of the present, and how your legacy can effect those in the future. We all have experiences and memories that are not so pleasant. These could be memories of an embarrassing moment in front of peers, to something unexpected and devastating happen. Many times we don't fully process these experiences. It may leave us feeling unsure, unsafe, vulnerable, or angry, among many other negative perceptions about ourselves and the world around us. There are times we find ourselves locking those experiences away in a corner of our minds. To our best efforts, we try to keep them shut away.
