What happens when life changes you—but you refuse to let it define you?
At 13 years old, Darren Richardson’s foot was crushed by a massive boulder. Doctors warned him that he might never return to the activities he loved.
He refused to accept that limitation.
Years later, Darren became a firefighter and paramedic and spent 18 years serving others. But the trauma of being a first responder eventually caught up with him. He developed PTSD, experienced deep depression, struggled with alcohol, and ultimately hit rock bottom.
Then he made the decision to rebuild.
After reclaiming his identity and finding his way through recovery, Darren faced another major setback: a second amputation.
Once again, he chose to rise.
Today, Darren is a Mindset and Mental Performance Coach, motivational speaker, and founder of Ashes to Ascent Coaching. He helps first responders, veterans, amputees, and others facing adversity rebuild their identity and turn pain into purpose.
In this episode of Human Enough, we explore resilience, identity, PTSD, mental health in the fire service, family, recovery, and the mindset required to keep moving forward when life doesn’t go according to plan.
