Editorial Reviews:
P. T. Barnum was a force of a man who changed entertainment and how it was marketed to the public. Best known as the founder of Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus hes also been attached with the moniker of con man, flimflam artist, and humbug. You won't find a shred of an apology here, however. He defines a humbug in the pejorative sense as someone who, through fraudulent claims, "abuses" the public, in contrast to the harmless sort, such as himself, who "amuses". Barnum, normally the entertainer, is here the politician and Rick Adams takes on the historic and worldly tone of his words in this audiobook describing humbugs from all walks of life encountered during the mans illustrious life and work.

Consumer Reports for a Previous Generation
I was expecting something entertaining. What I found was a serious expose' of what today would be called "consumer fraud'. Showman P.T. Barnum looks at adulterated products, con-men, fake mediums and psychics. This was written before Sinclair Lewis' groundbreaking work "The Jungle".
If you are interested in history or business I think you will like this book.
it was annoying even back then
Barnum should be read by anyone who wishes to advertise. His writing addresses not only a variety of scams and cons, but also the uses of early viral marketing. Yes, it was annoying even back then.
Three Stars
SO-SO READ.
