Hunger For God // Jesus Chooses Who (Part 6)

Listen Later

In Luke 19, Jesus intentionally travels to Jericho to minister to the curious and broken. Zacchaeus, the despised chief tax collector, displays a hunger for Jesus by climbing a tree to see him. Jesus, searching hearts, calls Zacchaeus by name and declares he will visit his house. This encounter sparks a drastic change in Zacchaeus as he repents and vows to make amends. Despite grumbling from the people, Jesus chooses to transform Zacchaeus, showing that he calls and saves whom he pleases. This story emphasizes Jesus's intentional pursuit of the hungry and desperate, offering salvation and the opportunity for transformation to all who hunger for Him.
This story reminds us that God intentionally seeks us out, knowing our names and searching our hearts. No matter our position or past mistakes, Jesus calls us, offering us salvation and the opportunity for transformation. We can find joy, purpose, and true identity when we focus on Jesus, allowing him to work in our lives. Just as Zacchaeus put aside his dignity and climbed the tree, let us put aside our preconceptions, open our hearts, and hunger for Jesus to bring about change within us.
