This is the story of my 3-Day solo hunting trip into the backcountry desert of AZ trying to fill my 2019 OTC archery deer tag on the last three days of the year. Not a lot of giants running around, but tons of deer and multiple stalks per day made it an amazing hunt!

Today I’m joined by my buddy, Josh Kirchner, from Dialed-In-Hunter. Josh tells us the amazing story of his first ever archery bear harvest. Black bears in Arizona are one of the toughest animals to hunt, and Josh has quite a few of these desert-dwelling bruins under his belt. This is one of my favorite hunting stories of all time, and I can’t wait for you to hear how the whole situation unfolded for Josh with his bow in hand…I can guarantee your heart-rate will be elevated by the end of this story!

This is the tragic tale of my 2020 Archery Javelina hunt, a bad shot, and a pig with more fight in him than I ever thought possible. This is the first time I’ve made a bad shot and tried to re-stalk a wounded animal, and the way it went down is nothing I ever expected. It’s highly possible that pig could actually fly.

In this episode, I sit down with my friend and cameraman, Ben Crosby, to talk through the story of my first ever out of state hunt. We spent a week together deep in the backcountry climbing mountains, chasing elk, and learning a whole lot from both the hunting side and the wilderness cinematography world. As always, we share a bunch of laughs as we relive the successes and multiple failures of our journey to Colorado.

This is actually the story of my first big game harvest ever! Sighting issues with a new rifle led to a massive comedy of errors, several missed bucks, and a whole lot of unnecessary running around. Ultimately, I was able to harvest my first buck, but it was anything but the clean and professional sounding story I wish it was.

There are a lot of first wrapped up in this story…my first archery harvest, my first elk, my first hunting film. Plus, the way this whole hunt played out with harsh winds and not being able to call them in, it’s one of my favorite hunting stories to date. Listen in to hear how adapting strategies and being willing to think outside the box can lead to success out in the field.
