The social, political and economic effects of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are explored in an informal teach-in moderated by Professor Ted Henken of the Black and Hispanic Studies and Sociology Departments.
Circumstances existing prior to, during, and in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina are reflected upon by Baruch professors, a group of New Orleans residents and students, a New Orleans business owner, and a former 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami relief worker.
Featured speakers include Baruch English/Business Journalism Professor Christopher Hallowell, author of the foretelling investigative work examining the Gulf Coast wetlands, Holding Back the Sea; Greg Goldstein, senior at Tulane University and first Tulane student to transfer to Baruch College after Katrina; Tom Thayer, Partner and General Manager of New Orleans and New York City based pub, d.b.a.; and Rattanmol Singh Johal, Baruch Freshman and former 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami relief worker.
