We recap Shawn’s matches in the final week of the PGF regular season and it was a masterclass. Listening to Shawn breakdown each critical moments in his 3 Fights was incredible. Tyler providing his expert insight and analysis was key because the best podcast host in the universe was asking some dumb questions early on.
Tyler took the reins, his interview with Shawn blew mine away and he was able to explain to our audience the intricacies I was missing. Shawn gives us a special look into his mindset as we watched his fights. Explains everything he is doing and reasons behind it, during his only loss in 5 weeks, he goes over exactly where he made a critical mistake. Shawn also talks us through the fight he won and why he was able to lock on an arm bar so quickly.
Shawn qualified for the playoffs and he is definitely no easy win. Almost making it though PGFs entire season without a loss. Even more fascinating, this was Shawn’s first defeat by submission in 5 years.
The best of the best and Tyler did great hosting, asking good questions, since he is a fighter, Tyler made a huge difference because he talked with Shawn about a lot of things fans of Jiu Jitsu want to know. This was a special episode and we are going to keep working to make Shawn a regular on the MMA Report! Having a family with a baby, Shawn has enjoyed his time with PGF, and it is a 6 week grind. I think Shawn is a veteran with leadership qualities, many guys look to him and his input has an impact. He is an amazing talent, consummate professional, who will continue to succeed. Not shy about sharing his opinions, and Shawn wants to grow Jiu Jitsu.

However, in his place we have Jiu Jitsu star, coach, currently fighting in the PGF, Mr. Shawn Melanson. The best performer on the Philadelphia Phenoms, we hear his journey and why he is focused on Jiu Jitsu.
Shawn brings you expert insight, analysis and entertainment. He started in Jiu Jitsu right around the age of 18. A standout wrestler, football player, a natural athlete. Shawn talks about his cousins teaching him Jiu Jitsu, which he said consisted of getting knocked around by them.
Originally, Shawn trained for a career in MMA, had several battles in the octagon and carried a 3-1 record. I give him a lot of credit because Shawn was thinking about the long-term impact of an MMA.
Shawn completely changed his direction into Jiu Jitsu. You will hear about his rise. In the New England area, it's not exactly flush with opportunities. For years, Shawn worked hard, trained harder, continued to win earning a name for himself.
He won multiple Superfights, competitions, and is considered a top black belt in the region after taking on the best Jiu Jitsu athletes in the world. Shawn built a massive following on social media; he credits it to instructional video's fans see him use exactly what he teaches to get submissions. My take is Shawn is smart, outspoken, tough as nails.
In his first season with PGF as part of the Philadelphia Phenoms, Shawn leads the team with 24 points and is in 7th place which qualifies him for the individual playoffs.
A big personality, highly entertaining, and a true talent of Jiu Jitsu, with a wife and new baby, it's hard being away. He has enjoyed competing in PGF and commissioner Brandon McCaghren.

Also, we look at the Netflix MVP show Ronda Rousey will headline and new fights added.Tyler and I debate the UFC matchups selected for the White House. I think its an overhyped flop. Tyler disagrees, believing Topuria vs Gaethje will be a fantastic Lightweight champion unification bout. Pereira vs Gane has a nice story behind it with Alex moving up to heavyweight, but Gane is an underwhelming opponent. Especially with most thinking his eye pokes on Heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall. I don't think he should be rewarded by having a chance to win the interim Heavyweight Title. The rest of the lineup is eh. Sean O'Malley has been a draw, Diego Lopes can bring it.Dana White, UFC, even Trump, when the show was announced last year made it out to be the best contests in history, loaded with championship fights. UFC has billions of dollars from their deal with Paramount+. Back up the brinks truck, pay Jon Jones, Connor McGreger who everyone wants to see.We talk about MVP's show on Netflix in May and I think it will have higher viewership than UFC "250" because they booked star power. Ronda, Gina, Ngannou, now adding Nate Diaz, casual fans know.PGF week 3 was a good turnaround for the Wolverines, who had been in last place. The Kings, with Jeff Thompson's 44 individual points, continue wreaking havoc. They are unstoppable and with 97 points, their lead is widening. Twisters remain in second place with 80 points thanks to Kevin Beuhring who is ranked #2 at 36 points for an individual. PGF shows are fast paced, exciting, and educating people Jiu Jitsu is a blast. Shawn Melanson alone is a beast on the mat and entertaining as hell on social media. PGF will expand worldwide and succeed.

His heart wanted him to pick Max Holloway in the main event, but Tyler mentioned several times how Oliveria could outwrestle him and cause major problems with a multitude of submissions. In the end, Tyler went with Holloway reluctantly because he knew Oliveria could walk away with the coveted BFM Title.Tyler correctly predicted Rodrigues AKA Robocop would win, along with Drew Dober, and Raul Rosas Jr. which were all interesting selections.MMA Report previews the start of the PGF season, only on YouTube. We saw the Kings get off to a great start, winning week 1 with 34 points, the Phenoms took second scoring 21 points, close were the Twisters at 19 points, and the Wolverines have a lot of work to do finishing with 3 points. Jeff Thompson was the league leader dropping in 14 of his teams 34 points by himself. Tyler's friend Shwan Melanson, was the next single leader in points, nailing 10 of his own. We have only just begun and week 2 is right around the corner Wednesday.Can the Kings continue to build on their lead, will the Phenoms rally, the Twisters are in striking distance to close the gap, and will the Wolverines build momentum to points with a sense of urgency.We also argue over Ronda Rousey fighting Gina Carano on Netflix and debate the implications of UFC staging an event at the White House.

At it's new home, Paramount+ UFC begins a new era, and it is doing so with an incredible lineup. We were disappointed to see Kayla Harrison vs Amanda Nunes cancelled, but when anyone is dealing with a neck injury, you can't take chances. We are all happy to hear the surgery was a success and Harrison is pain free already.
Rose Namajunas vs Natalia Silva was moved up to the main card and it will definitely be worthy of the spot. Tyler offers his expert insight and analysis as he breaks down fights from the prelims, all the way to the main event featuring Justin Gaethje battling Paddy Pimblett. I am excited to watch Waldo Cortes-Acosta combat one of my favorites Derrick Lewis in the Heavyweight Division.

Tyler and I talk about UFC legend Colby Covington dismantling Luke Rockhold, not even giving up a point, winning 12-0. We review UFC Fight night from last week and talk about Dustin Porier losing his retirement match. Now he is becoming part of UFC's Broadcasting team. Tyler and I discuss a landmark deal for UFC with Paramount plus. ESPN has been busy purchasing media assets from the NFL Network and also signing a deal with WWE to show major Premium Live Events like Wrestlemania. TKO is the parent company of WWE and UFC, most of us expected UFC to leave ESPN at the end of their contract. However, I was still surprised because UFC provided a ton of content for ESPN and I thought keeping UFC would have been a bigger priority. We will preview UFC 319, the next PPV on our upcoming show.
