This week, we took a break from our communication series to bring you along on some time traveling, jumping all the way to May 2022! Jokes aside, this episode was recorded in two parts back in May. We took a deep dive into our final exam schedule and exam prep for the spring semester of our P2 year to give you all a look into how to prepare for exams. Give it a listen to learn how we prepare and what we find important to do well on exams, just in time for your fall exam season!

Katie and Joshua return once again after another short hiatus. Today, we kick off a four-part healthcare communications series. If you've ever worked in healthcare or had to do any type of medical documentation, you probably have an idea of what an SBAR is. But do you know what it was originally designed for? This is definitely something you weren't taught in school. This was a wild ride to record, so come along with us as we explore the SBAR!
In-Episode SBAR:
S: [Joshua Honaker, Pharmacy Intern] Pt presents to community pharmacy with congestion, “feels bad when outside”. Looking for OTC product, resolve today.
B: history of seasonal allergies, NKDA, no smoking or drinking, regular exercise, stays hydrated, paying out of pocket but expressed no cost concern, pt is a student, avoid meds causing drowsiness
A: Pt shows allergic rhinitis symptoms, pt should use a second generation antihistamine product to combat and prevent allergy symptoms, and may supplement with pseudoephedrine to clear congestion
R: pt to take Zyrtec (cetirizine) 10mg 1 tab po qd for next three weeks or until allergen counts go down. Pt may take Sudafed (pseudoephedrine) 2 tab (60mg total) po q4-6 hrs prn (up to 4 doses a day) to help with congestion, take with at least 8oz water per dose. Begin today. JH will call pt to follow up in two days.

After a bit of a break, we’re back! And we sat down with one of our professors to explain and break down implicit bias. If you have any curiosity about bias, micro-aggressions, ways to improve your awareness of social situations, or just want to hear Katie tell a not so fun story about a childhood dentist, then this episode is for you!

In this week's episode, Joshua and Katie talk about how the public and non-healthcare professionals view and utilize healthcare systems. From a mix of speculation and having lived as non-healthcare professionals for years, we discussed fears and concerns people may have towards healthcare, but also the simple ways the public can become more mindful of their health.
