Self-hygiene training is an important aspect when it comes to human life. While training kids, it is important to have patience since the process could take longer. Moreover, the process is not a quick one and has multiple steps involved.
Before you start toilet training, you can prepare your child for this big step. Start teaching your child, some words for going to the toilet - ‘wee’, ‘poo’, ‘susu’, ‘potty’ etc. Make sure your child is eating plenty of fiber and drinking lots of water, so your child doesn’t get constipated and passes at regular intervals.
Start by introducing toileting as a part of your child’s regular daily routine and at regular intervals. As a parent, you would know the kid’s routine and the places where the kid goes to pee and potty. As soon as the kid goes to the place, tell the kid “Let’s go to pee/potty” and take the kid to the toilet. If your child doesn’t pee or poo after 3-5 minutes of sitting on the potty or toilet, let your child get off the toilet. It’s best not to sit your child on the toilet for too long, because this will feel like punishment. It took 3-4 months for my kid to take me towards the toilet to pee and 8-9 months for potty but when did it for the first time, it felt like an achievement.
If your child misses the toilet, try not to get frustrated.
Also, if you are out on the roads then take the responsibility to stop on the roads and help the kid pee as in the mind the kid might look for a toilet as learning. Also, do not take the initial few days as granted that the kid has learned, and it is always helpful to have a spare change of underpants and clothes for your child when you’re out. You might also need a waterproof bag or plastic bag for wet or soiled clothes.
