The BBC definitely promoted this episode as a “hide behind the sofa nail biter.” So, did the episode live up to that kind of hype, or were the trailers misleading?

As long time listeners know it’s Robin Hood week and one of our hosts might be a tad excited about this. Actually, she’s kind of over the top about the episode and needs people to know that The Adventures of Robin Hood is her favorite movie of all time and the BBC Robin Hood broke her heart. Now that that is out of her system, let go on to the show.

It’s a sidewaysish thumb (we think we coined a new term there) for Laura, Harri, and Natalie, but Harri wonders if he’s being too nit-picky. We universally again loved Peter Capaldi as the new Doctor, but we definitely have a few questions like: How did they get out of the Dalek? Is Clara going to suffer any after effects? Is Danny who he says he is? What is the story with Missy?

After our welcome back, it’s been a long time guys, we start off by giving our instant thumbs up, down, or sideways reaction to the episode. It’s a thumbs up for Laura and Kyle, an improving thumbs up for Kristen, and a thumbs sideways for Jen. We universally loved the Doctor vs. the Cyberman Doctor and guest star Warwick Davis; however, we all had issues with the kids. Universally we wondered how much information Neil Gaiman was given.

We start of comparing this episode to the previous Neil Gaiman episode, The Doctor’s Wife. We all agree it’s a little unfair to compare but it’s inevitable.

Next up we talk about the evolution of the Cybermen. What do we think of Gaiman’s new approach?

We loved the concept of the Doctor as the threat to those around him. We think Matt Smith did an amazing job with the dual roles.

We had lots of problems with the kids ranging from flat characterizations, wondering why they were taken off-world to begin with, and perplexed that the Doctor didn’t lock them in the TARDIS for their safety.

Clara the the commander, cue Charles in Charge music with guest appearances by Where’s Waldo and Craig.

What’s with all the genocide already?

Why we are finding the Doctor and Clara relationship equally puzzling and frustrating. Are they ever going to talk, because they seem to keep avoiding the obvious opportunity. Where we think they are losing the casual viewer because the hints aren’t constant and obvious. Does the prequel help or hurt us understand their relationship?

Natalie was keen on everything Strax said and Laura loved the bit with the sonic and the chair. Laura also has a bit of a fangasm with the Tegan references.

-Next we get into the specifics of the episode

We really like how Mark Gatiss set the story in Yorkshire in the Victorian era. Visually it was really well done, and hit just the right scare factor for the kids. The humor was fantastic.

We especially thought guest stars Diana Rigg and Rachael Sterling brought the story to another level. Especially Diana Rigg was realistically scary and Rachael Sterling was heartbreaking.

Strax, Vastra, and Jenny need their own spin-off series. We talk how that could work. They also need to make Ada a part of their gang. We also liked that Jenny really had the chance to shine as a character not under the shadow of Vastra this time.

We loved the Yorkshire humor, even though we are pretty sure it sailed right over the heads of most Americans

Red and roses once again

The theme of perfection. We liked it. Not typical ground for Doctor Who, but we thought they incorporated it well without being too preachy.

What we thought of the alien: EWWWWWWWWW! (in a good way)

So Vastra, Jenny, and Strax get no Clara explanation at all? Really? And why was he taking her to their time period in London to begin with? Surely he intended for her to meet them and to explain.

The end (we are a little confused)

-So the kids dug up the photos. Who the hell was taking pictures?

-What made the kids hunt for the photos, that’s a pretty random thing to do.

-She’s passing the Doctor off as her boyfriend.

-Is the Great Intelligence at work here?

-This is blackmail how exactly?

-Willingly risking the lives of kids one of whom is not a teen? Parallels to Sarah Jane and Luke. Would the Doctor and Clara really do that considering how often things don’t go as planned.

We share our favorite quotes which are all pretty different, but we are all in agreement that our favorite scene was the discussion between the Doctor and Clara on how he regards humanity/her personally.

The concept of the ghost story written by Neil Cross is generally one we liked. It was well-executed as far as lighting, most of the premise, and the cast. There were some reservations on how much we liked the twist ending and how we view the Clara and TARDIS relationship.

It a tough thing to fulfill the right level of scariness considering in the U.K. the show is very much aimed at young kids unlike the US and Australia is a mixed bad of viewers. Whereas it wasn’t as scary as Blink, it did bring what Tariq dubbed “the creep factor”

For a second there we thought there were weeping angels and were glad they weren’t

Pocket Universe vs. a parallel universe, what do we think of this concept?

How did we like Jessica Raine and Dougray Scott? Will we now watch Call the Midwife?

The Doctor and Clara’s confrontation/heart-to-heart, do you think each was being honest with each other and is that the problem? What does the TARDIS sense?

Parallels to other episodes are starting to overwhelm us.

Shades of Donna Noble, club me over the head why don’t ya, it’s a platonic relationship crushing the hearts of shippers everywhere…or is it?

What’s with the TARDIS not liking Clara? Theories that we like and hopes that it’s not just jealousy because that would suck. Is the TARDIS just being bitchy saying Clara hereself is the image she most esteems or is a facade being picked up?

Recurring Clara items include the red bag, red umbrella. Seriously, someone needs to market this bag, but we want her to put stuff in it or take stuff out otherwise why does she carry it?

Recurring 11th reference this time is the 11th most disgusting thing is whiskey. Previous shout outs were the 11th chapter and the 11th as Clara’s mum’s birth date. If there was a Cold War reference we missed it.

Also the music thing again about the music room being the heart of the house, or was this a dropped/unexplored plot point along with the hot/cold spots.

The Clara Mystery

Emma “reads” the Doctor as having a sliver of ice in his heart but sees nothing amiss with Clara–perfectly ordinary girl pretty clever, more scared than she lets on. Is Emma lying? Is Emma decieved? She warns Clara but not the Doctor.

Clara and doctor confrontation:Doctor finally states only mystery worth solving. Why does he say that? Does he mean the universal “you” does she pick up the deeper meaning?
