  • Being Human in 2035: AI's Impact on Humanity

This episode summarizes the insights from a diverse group of technology pioneers, builders, and analysts canvassed between late 2024 and early 2025 by Elon University's Imagining the Digital Future Center. These experts offer their perspectives on how advanced artificial intelligence is anticipated to reshape the human experience by 2035, touching upon various aspects of life. Many foresee a blurring of boundaries between reality and fiction, human and artificial intelligence, and human and synthetic creations, potentially leading to significant societal shifts. Concerns are raised about diminished individual agency, autonomy, and critical thinking skills as reliance on AI increases. However, some experts also anticipate opportunities for enhanced human capabilities, creativity, and problem-solving, provided that ethical development, regulation, and education adapt accordingly to this evolving human-AI relationship.

  • How using ChatGPT affects people’s emotional well-being

OpenAI has released a pair of new studies in partnership with MIT Media Lap on how using ChatGPT affects people’s emotional well-being. The studies explore how users interact emotionally with AI chat platforms like ChatGPT. Through analysis of real-world usage data and a controlled experiment, the researchers investigated the connection between using these platforms and users' emotional well-being, specifically focusing on loneliness, socialisation, emotional dependence, and problematic use. The findings indicate that high-intensity usage is linked to markers of emotional dependence and lower socialisation. Notably, a small subset of users exhibit frequent affective cues in their conversations. The study also explores the impact of voice modality and different conversation tasks on user experience and well-being outcomes, highlighting the complexities of socioaffective alignment in AI interactions.
