My family was part of the Great Migration, leaving the Jim Crow South in search of opportunity, safety, and dignity in Oakland for my maternal side and Berkeley and Richmond for my paternal side. For years, I’ve felt the pull to leave my hometown, but something keeps holding me here. Maybe it’s more than circumstance—maybe it’s purpose. One of the last things my maternal great-uncle told me was, “Make sure you help keep the family together.” What if the reason my plans haven’t aligned is because I have a job to do right here, where my ancestors planted their dreams?

This impromptu episode is me venting my frustrations. There is a lot of raw emotion here and I needed to get this off of my chest.

I have been so tired of not being heard and tired of putting myself in spaces where I am not heard. So what does this mean? What needs to happen? Baby girl makes an appearance in this episode too!
