Pastor Jason Mayhall leads the continuation of the "Identity Theft" sermon series, at Redemption Bible Church. In Ephesians 2, Pastor Jason points out the illustration that humans are predisposed to lift up our own strengths and use them as a basis from which to look down on other people. The sin in our heart and in our nature leads us to build these walls between us and others. This can, at times, manifest as a belief that we are right and everyone who isn't like us is wrong. It is these conflicts that can cause us to be separated from Jesus. Paul is saying that when Jesus died on the cross, we need to recognize that He removed every barrier between humans and God. We have been reconciled to God, even though we are all sinners, and try to rebel against God. Thanks to Jesus we, as Christians, are all seen as equal children of God and given this common identity. We need to place more value in what we have in common, rather than what might make us different. Through this we can set an example for everyone on how to live in spiritual unity and serve God.
