“I am the light of the world, he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12.) It is only right that Jesus would describe himself as the light of the world.
Light serves as a guide. Lights along an airport runway are used to enable an airplane to safely land. Lights are used on the ocean to guide a ship safely into harbor. Turning on a light allows us to walk safely across a room rather than stumble and trip in the dark. Jesus serves as a guide for us. His life shows us how we ought to live and what we ought to be. The inspired psalmist wrote, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105
