Hi, I’m Mollye Barrows, a long-time reporter in Florida’s Panhandle and welcome to my true crime investigative series, Gulf Coast Confidential, where I explore the saltier stories that surface in Northwest Florida and all along the Gulf of Mexico.
This is a companion series called Gulf Coast Confidential Conversations where my co-host, Pam Hill, and I dive deep to discuss crimes and scandals.
In this episode, we’re digging into the documentary series about reality TV stars, the Duggar Family, called Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets.
The Duggar Family was once a household name, synonymous with faith and family values. Now some family members say that behind the scenes of their popular and lucrative reality TV series, “19 and Counting,” it was a house of horrors, rampant with sex abuse, fraud, and exploitation within the family and the powerful religious organization that dominated their lives.
The series was popular with people across the country and the documentary exposes a culture where women and girls say they're abused and silenced, accusations that surface in similar crimes and organizations along the Gulf Coast and nationwide.
