In private and not so private spaces, Black students are talking about politics. And they want to be heard. If you listen to political science majors Tyler Mitchell and Alahni Napier, being heard also means accepting that their viewpoints may not be in alignment with general assumptions often made of them. It means that political talk heads often miss the point and can’t speak for young black voices.

As Student Summit Organizers, Tyler and Alahni are on this episode of I Love My HBCU? to help introduce the upcoming “GenerationNext: Thought Leaders” Summit where Black college students have the opportunity to discourse on national crowd-sourced issues that influence not just their perspectives but also their vote.

Baltimore City (Maryland) Council President Nick J. Mosby is extremely aware of the angels in human form who made and make up his village and he continues to give them their flowers and shout out their names. Anyiah Chambers is not one to mince her words on any subject you throw at her; from acknowledging that it is perfectly okay to admit that we have not always been loudly HBCU Proud, and that the time to be that is NOW, to discussing the role of age in politics, Anyiah lives up to her description of herself being real and raw.
