I used to be a nurse.
Holding witness to life. Death. Abuse. Trauma. Grief. Hopelessness. Despair. Also joy, laughter, and love of the deepest kind.
While empathetic, nurses also have a switch to shut it down; to turn to auto pilot; to keep the emotions out of the way long enough to do the job; to avoid getting caught up in the heavy or chaotic energy that can surround many nursing environments.
Trauma is stored in our body, no matter how big or small it may seem. It all matters and it all deserves a voice!
