Welcome to a special Holiday Edition of the I Want to Believe podcast, I’m Nomar Slevik and we’ve got a story of a mysterious figure that made itself known around 62 years ago…

So… lets dive into the story of the goblin in the woods…

This encounter brings us to the state of New Hampshire, the town of Derry to be exact. It was first settled way back in 1719 by Scots-Irish families, but it was not incorporated into the town of Derry until 1827. The name comes from a city in Ireland also called Derry. The town is nicknamed Spacetown in honor of Alan Shepard an astronaut from Derry AND the FIRST man from the U.S. in space, which happened in 1961 and he actually walked on the moon in 1971. Pretty cool.

On December 15, 1956, Derry resident Alfred Horne was out in the forest looking for the perfect Christmas tree to bring home for the holiday. Horne went to the woods alone but after a while, he felt like he was being watched. He walked towards the trees a few feet and saw someone or something standing nearby watching him as he worked. The entity was about two feet high. It had a large head with big floppy ears. In place of a nose it just had two nostril slits, and its eyes were covered with nictitating membranes like a snake's. To make things even stranger, the entity was green, stark naked, and had stumpy arms and toeless feet.

Horne thought that no one would believe what he saw and actually tried to apprehend the little creature. But as he tried to grab the entity it emitted loud, blood-curdling shrieks. Horne fled from the woods in panic, leaving the little green man behind.

On this episode of the I Want to Believe podcast I take a roadtrip around Maine. I have a new digital audio recorder in hand CHECK IT OUT HERE and I visit some of the locations covered in the new book. I also talk about horror movies, visiting my folks and share a few stories. 

The audio is pieced together from about 16 different little trips I took, while the audio is high quality, the sound is inconsistent. In some clips I can be heard driving, in others I may be outside, and the mic is in varying distances from my mouth, lol. Totally listenable, just wanted full disclosure.

On the trial of…Champ chronicles North America’s most infamous lake monster, affectionately known as “Champ”. Centuries of lore, sightings and mystery surround this creature as well as the lake it calls home. Shot on location at Lake Champlain, Vermont/New York, USA, On the trail of…Champ dives deep into the rich history of the region in connection with Champ, as well as Champ’s cultural impact in many of the rural communities that border the lake.

Various eyewitnesses of the creature recall their encounters, including Sandra Mansi, who in 1977 took a photo of the creature considered by some to be the best evidence for any lake monster. From IMDB - Aleksandar was born in 1993 during the last year of Apartheid in South Africa to parents that fled civil war in the former Yugoslavia. Interested in filmmaking from a young age Aleksandar filmed home movies for years before pursuing Film & Media in High School and College, as well as History and Political Science. His love of film, global events, history and even Cryptozoology have merged together to allow him to create unique short films, in particular documentaries. Aleksandar is a 2015 Quinnipiac University graduate with a BA in Film, Video & Interactive Media.
