ICE Breaker

In this episode, Mack is joined by former Dallas Stars Head Coach and current St. Louis Blues Assistant Coach Jim Montgomery or 'Monty' as he's known by.  Monty talks about his lengthy playing career after being undrafted.  He talks about the perseverance it takes and how if you don't get drafted it's still the beginning of a long road.  He then goes into his coaching career and how it started along with the highs and lows that go with it.

In this episode, Mack is joined by Central Scouting ranked players Connor McClennon, Owen Pederson, and Ben Zloty ahead of the 2020 NHL Draft that takes place next week.  They players chat about their mindset leading into the draft and some advice they have received prior to the day.  Later in the episode, Mack is joined by Mitch Peacock, the play-by-play announcer for the Winnipeg ICE who had the chance to watch all three of these players all year long.  Mitch chats about the players on-ice talent but also the young men they are off the ice.

In this episode, Mack is joined by Winnipeg ICE Scout Ryan Guenter.  Prior to joining the ICE, Ryan was a long-time scout for the Victoria Royals organization including two years as the team's Head Scout.  Ryan also has his master's degree in sports psychology that he uses to help develop and talk to young athletes who are working their way to the next level.  Tune in for some in-depth conversation about what it takes to move onto the next level.

In today's episode, Mack is joined by former Hockey Canada Head Scout and current Vegas Golden Knights scout, Brad McEwen.  Brad chats about picking world junior teams and winning championships with Team Canada.  Before Brad was with Hockey Canada, he worked in the Western Hockey League for many years where he won the leagues award for WHL Executive of the Year.

In today's episode, Brian Munz from TSN joins the show.  Brian covers the Jets and does colour commentary on the radio.  Mack and Brian chat about his start in the SJHL and then his move up to the WHL where he covered the Prince Albert Raiders for 5 seasons and now he covers the NHL in Winnipeg.

In this special episode 16, Mack is joined by the first head coach and general manager in Winnipeg Freeze franchise history to talk about the team and position.  He shares how excited he is and what an opportunity it will be for him to embark on this challenge.  We are also joined by the head coach and general manager of the Winnipeg Blues, Taras McEwen.  They talk rivalry before the puck drops and what two Winnipeg teams means for the MJHL.

In today's episode, Winnipeg ICE defenseman and Dallas Stars Prospect Dawson Barteaux joins the show.  Dawson opens up about his summer and the challenging times he has gone through.  Mack also asks Dawson about his draft day and how he handled the pressure of the unknown during the day... it might have involved a little bit of golf.  Dawson also chats about how he found out he was being signed by the Dallas Stars ahead of the 2019-20 WHL season.

In episode 14 of ICE Breaker, Mack is joined by Western Hockey League linesman, Bradley Parker.  Mack and Brad chat about what it's like to be an official and how the transition from playing to officiating took place.  Brad talks about being an official and what his goals are moving forward as well as what it's like being on the ice in sold-out arenas and long overtime playoff games.

In today's episode, Sportsnet's Ken Wiebe joins the show and chat about the ways journalism has changed over the years pre COVID-19.  Mack also gets into the challenges that COVID-19 has brought to the journalism field.  Ken talks about how accommodating the NHL and other major sports leagues have been to the media in these unprecedented times.  Listen to see what Ken misses the most about the "old ways" of doing things.

We head inside the NHL's Bubble as Winnipeg ICE Captain and Vegas Golden Knights prospect Peyton Krebs joins the show from Edmonton.  Peyton is in the bubble with the Golden Knights and although he has yet to play he is on the ice with the team every day.  We chat about what is going on inside the bubble, how he passes time and what he enjoys most about living the NHL lifestyle.
