  • Doctors Called It Depression. A Bacterium Was Paralyzing Him.

    A 32-year-old dairy worker slowly lost the use of his legs, his vision, and his hearing. His early brucellosis tests were negative. Doctors eventually diagnosed depression. Nearly twenty-two months later, one test of the fluid around his brain and spinal cord finally found the infection.

    This episode follows a documented neurobrucellosis case and explains how Brucella can survive inside immune cells, reach the nervous system, imitate other diseases, and remain difficult to diagnose. It also examines why unpasteurized milk and cheese still carry a preventable risk.
