La guerre, les guerres, ne se mènent pas que sur les champs de bataille. Elles se mènent aussi sur le front médiatique afin de mobiliser l'opinion. Car pendant qu'on envoie des armes, des soldats ou qu'on bombarde, il faut convaincre. L'opinion, ça se travaille, et les grands médias y contribuent quotidiennement. À chaque mobilisation sociale, à chaque conflit militaire, à chaque élection, le constat ne varie pas : les grands médias sont des médias de parti pris.
Mais certains événements fonctionnent comme des verres grossissant où les biais du traitement médiatique et son absence de pluralisme se donnent à voir de façon spectaculaire. En période de conflit militaire, le premier réflexe est de s'aligner sur la version et la lecture officielle et de relayer la propagande de l'État ou, à défaut, du camp occidental. L'autre invariant, c'est la dépolitisation, une simplification du conflit qui opère par une forme de présentisme. On se focalise sur l'instant en oubliant ou en sélectionnant ce qui s'est passé avant. Par la bipolarisation aussi. Le bien contre le mal ou encore par l'émotion lorsque les chefferies éditoriales choisissent de mobiliser les affects souvent à géométrie variable.
Enfin, une fois les hostilités ouvertes ou en cours de préparation, les grands médias sont au garde à vous. Le doigt sur la couture, les experts multicartes défilent en plateau pour prescrire les bonnes recettes capables de financer la guerre. Et bien souvent, les journaux acclament les militaires du camp occidental dans leurs colonnes.
Bref, on l'a compris aujourd'hui, il s'agit de revenir sur le traitement médiatique des conflits armés.
