You're Probably Buying the Wrong Paper Towels. You've probably been buying paper towels the same way for years... grabbing the expensive one because it has to be better.

But is paying more actually buying you a better paper towel... or just better marketing?

In this investigation, I put Bounty, Brawny, and Great Value through real-world strength tests, absorbency tests, and forensic microscopy to find out what's really hiding beneath the surface.

Every paper towel was tested under the exact same conditions using identical water volumes, equal wet-strength testing, and side-by-side microscope comparisons. Then we looked beyond the packaging to see how each towel was actually engineered and whether its microscopic fiber structure helped explain its real-world performance.

Under the microscope, Brawny showed the most open-looking fiber network with larger visible pathways between the fibers. Great Value appeared noticeably more compact, while Bounty landed somewhere in the middle with thicker bundles of intertwined cellulose fibers. Those microscopic differences helped explain why each paper towel behaved differently during the physical tests.
