In this episode, we’re taking a step-back from our usual conversations with medical doctors talking about a particular body system or chronic diseases to speak to Dr. Melanie Joy, PhD. Dr. Joy is a Psychologist and the founding president for “Beyond Carnism”. Its mission is to expose and transform carnism, the invisible belief system that conditions people to eat certain animals. Pulled off of their website “At Beyond Carnism, we believe that people need and deserve to know the truth about carnism, so they can make their food choices freely — because without awareness, there is no free choice. Beyond Carnism seeks to empower concerned citizens and vegan advocates through education and activism, to help create a more compassionate and just world for all beings, human and nonhuman alike.” I hope all of my episodes make you think, but especially this one. I realize this is not a topic that you usually hear about on this podcast but I feel that it plays an integral part to ones greater understanding and appreciation of our role in the world. As you’ll hear, Dr. Joy speaks about how this invisible belief system called Carnism affects us and many other aspects of our lives without us even knowing about it or being conscious of it. Hopefully, this conversation at least raises ones consciousness of its existence so that this new consciousness may spark behavior change for the better.  This Episode of the Ian Cramer Podcast is sponsored by Health IQ, an insurance company that helps health conscious people like runners, cyclist, weightlifters and vegetarians and vegans get lower rates on their life insurance.  Like saving money on your car insurance for being a good driver, Health IQ saves you money on your life insurance for living a health conscious lifestyle.  To see if you qualify, get your free quote today at healthiq.com/IAN.   I hope you enjoy and learn something from this conversation on Episode #37 with Dr. Melanie Joy.  I’d like to thank the newest patrons of the podcast.
