What does it really mean to call Jesus Christ your Lord?

In this message, Bondservants of Christ, we continue our journey through Ephesians and examine Paul’s words in Ephesians 6:1-9. The world tells us that freedom means belonging to no one, following our own desires, and living however we choose. Scripture tells us something very different.

We were once slaves to sin, but through Jesus Christ we have been set free. And Christ did not simply set us free from something. He set us free for something.

We belong to Him.

That truth should affect the way we parent, the way we work, the way we serve, the way we treat others, and even who we are when nobody else is watching.

The question is not simply, “Do you call Jesus Lord?”

The question is: Do you live like He is Lord?

Jesus Christ paid the price for our freedom with His own blood. The Master became the servant so that slaves to sin could be set free. Now we are called to surrender our plans, our pride, our sin, and our will to the One who gave His life to save ours.

There is no greater freedom than belonging completely to Jesus Christ.

What does a Christ-centered marriage truly look like?

In “As Christ Loved the Church,” we study Ephesians 5:22–33 and examine God’s design for marriage, biblical submission, spiritual leadership, and sacrificial love. This message challenges husbands and wives to stop focusing on changing one another and begin by strengthening their own relationship with Jesus Christ.

Biblical submission is not about inferiority or control. It is about serving one another out of reverence for Christ. Husbands are called to love their wives as Christ loved the church, with patience, faithfulness, humility, and a willingness to sacrifice. Wives are called to respect and support their husbands while remaining faithful to Christ above all.

Whether you are married, dating, single, or divorced, this passage points us toward something greater than marriage itself. It reveals the greatest love story ever told: Jesus Christ gave Himself for His bride, the church, while we were still sinners.

In Ephesians 5:15-21, the Apostle Paul gives us a simple but powerful warning: **Watch your step.**

The Christian life is not meant to be lived carelessly. Paul tells us to look carefully at how we walk, to live with wisdom, make the best use of the time God has given us, understand the will of the Lord, and live under the influence of the Holy Spirit.

Every step matters.

We live in a world filled with distractions, temptations, and stumbling blocks. It is easy to waste our time chasing money, possessions, comfort, relationships, status, or the desires of our flesh. But time is one thing we can never get back. Biblical wisdom means taking what God has revealed through His Word and allowing it to shape our decisions, relationships, priorities, and the way we live.

Paul also challenges us to consider what is influencing our walk. A Spirit-filled life is not about receiving more of the Holy Spirit. It is about allowing the Holy Spirit to have greater influence over the way we think, speak, make decisions, respond to our circumstances, worship God, and treat the people around us.

And people are watching.

Some of the loudest preaching we will ever do will never happen behind a pulpit. It will happen through the way we walk through pain, suffering, disappointment, loss, and uncertainty. When the world sees someone hurting yet still proclaiming that God is good, faithful, and worthy of praise, our lives point beyond our circumstances and directly toward Jesus Christ.

So ask yourself:

**How am I walking?**

Am I walking in wisdom or continuing to make foolish decisions?

Am I making the best use of the time God has given me?

Am I seeking God's will or asking God to follow the path I have chosen for myself?

What is influencing the way I live: the things of this world or the Holy Spirit of God?

We don't know how many steps we have left. Every day, every opportunity, and every step matters. Watch your step. Walk in wisdom. Make the best use of your time. Seek the will of God. Be filled with the Holy Spirit. And use every day God gives you to live a life that points the people around you toward Jesus Christ.

Who is God, and what does it mean to truly know Him?

What did Jesus accomplish on the cross?
