There is power in the prologue. Mark 1:1-5 is the beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, the son of God. This prologue, brief as it is, is purposeful. We see John, who models what it means to build for the Kingdom of God. This prologue gives us space to reflect on whether or not we are preparing a way for the Lord in the world, and it opens us up to seeing this season as a prologue for our lives.

Each of us has our desolate places, yet God still holds our hope for what is yet to come. In Jeremiah 33:10-11, 14-16 the prophet Jeremiah looked upon the desolation of his world and invited the people of God to imagine, even amongst the difficulties of their present day, the possibilities of God to bring laughter and joy into the world.

Our scriptures bear witness to a God whose kingship is nothing like worldly kingship. In 2 Kings 22:1-10 and 23:1-3, we read about King Josiah of Israel, one of the most virtuous and faithful kings.
