You cannot get that money you pay towards your mortgage early if you have an epic event. You cannot ask for the 20k you paid this year due to tragedy happening. The opposite argument is to save the money in a high yield savings account, but the flip side is, the money isn't growing at a good rate of return. It's all about doing the numbers and finding what makes the best sense for your situation.
